Accessibility

Welcome to the RBC Film Theatre. We are here to help make your visit as welcoming as possible.

  • Mobility Assistance

Our cinema is located within a converted 18th century listed mill building, and we acknowledge that our building is not the most practical for visitors with certain mobility requirements.

There is one disabled badge holder’s space in the car park. Our box office and auditorium are on the ground floor which is accessible via a ramped, electronically assisted entrance door. The cinema has space for 4 wheelchair users at the front of the screen. Advance booking these spaces is recommended. We have one accessible gender neutral loo on the ground floor. The first floor can be reached via a stair lift.

If you require a companion to facilitate your visit to the cinema, we offer free places. These tickets can be booked when you buy your own ticket. We participate in the CEA card scheme where you can get a free ticket for your companion at any participating cinema in the UK. For further information on the CEA card, please visit www.ceacard.co.uk

  • Blind and Partially Sighted Assistance

We provide Audio Descriptions during our screenings whenever made available to us by distributors. The Audio Description can be accessed either by using our hearing-aid compatible induction loop or our infra-red headset, both of which are available on request from the Box Office.

Audio Description is a service for partially sighted or blind people. While the film's main soundtrack plays through the cinema speakers in the usual manner, users listen to a specially recorded narrator detailing what's happening on the screen at selected breaks during the film's dialogue, through a set of headphones. The headphones are personal and the user is still able to hear the film's sound through the cinema surround sound speakers.

  • Deaf and Hard of Hearing Assistance

The auditorium is fitted with a loop receiver which is suitable for people with hearing aids with a T switch.

  • Captioned Screenings

Captions display dialogue on-screen and also describe the audio or sound portion of a film (eg when a door slams, when a phone rings), allowing viewers who are deaf or hard of hearing to follow the script and the action of a film at the same time. When on-screen captions are available with a film, we will always schedule a number of captioned screenings throughout our monthly programme.
